About us
New Zealand Petfoods Ltd was founded in 1987 by Russell and Karen Gawn primarily as a farm based slaughter operation providing local farmers with Real Meat Dog Tucker.
By 1989 demand had increased to include South Island wide sales to supermarkets, pet stores, and butcheries which required a relocation of premises and a shift in focus to the processing of raw materials only.
In 2000, to increase capacity and establish an injured stock procurement / slaughter service the company acquired three further shareholders and relocated to Adair Abattoirs, inland from Timaru.
With further increased demand and the slaughter operation proving very successful, in 2005 the company split into two divisions. Stock procurement and slaughter at Adair, whilst processing, sales, marketing and R&D were relocated to a brand new purpose-built facility in Timaru. The current structure allows for complete control over every aspect of procurement and both primary and secondary processing of raw materials. This has allowed the company to confidently provide high quality products consistently to our customers.
